The members of the Shepard science department sponsor a science fair which provides the opportunity for students to gain positive recognition of their individual science interests and abilities through a communication of their accomplishments.  Seventh grade students are required to do a science fair project, while it is voluntary for eighth grade students.

Shepard is a member of the Illinois Junior Academy of Science.  The IJAS guidelines apply to 7th and 8th graders who participate in either the Regional or State Science Fair.  Sixth grade students are exposed to a project facsimile through an in-class unit.
