Math Workshop Model Details
Launch/Investigation/Dig-In
5 minutes
A discovery exploration or task that encourages conceptual thinking about the mathematical skill or concept.
Mini-Lesson
10-15 minutes
The teacher provides instruction, modeling, and demonstration on specific mathematical skill or concept.
Math Workshop
30-35 minutes
Guided math - Teacher meets with a group of students for small group instruction.
Stations/centers - Students are working on engaging activities that are mathematically purposeful, still targeting the skill or concept, but designed at their independent level.
Daily closing
5 minutes
A time set aside for assessment, reflection or closure to solidify student learning and/or provide the teacher with an opportunity to gather information to plan the next steps.

Math Collaborative Model Details
Opening
Generally a math talk that incorporates of students to provides a task or pose a problem that is accessible at multiple levels.
Collaboration/Conferencing
Collaborative work can take many forms. Students will have opportunities to work problems out together, make conjectures, and critique one another's reasoning. Given tasks will require discussion, problem-solving, and testing of theories. The teacher will be conferencing with groups to provide scaffolding to help students apply new learning.
Closing
Opportunity to debrief, journal, have class discussion, and/or do a quick assessment.
