Deerfield Public School District 109 does not participate in the National School Lunch and Breakfast or milk programs but does ensure that students who require such food programs are Provided with meals.

Free and Reduced-Price Food Services Eligibility

When the parents/guardians of students are unable to pay for their child(ren)’s meal services, meal charges will apply per a student’s eligibility category and will be processed by the District accordingly. The same is true for the milk program.

A student’s eligibility for free food services and milk program shall be determined by the income eligibility guidelines, family-size income standards, set annually by the U.S. Dept. of Agriculture, and distributed by the Ill. State Board of Education.

Parents of District 109 students can visit the District Center to get work permits for their children. Work permits are issued to minors through age 15 years; a written application must be completed in order to obtain a work permit for a minor and is required under section 205./12 of the Illinois Child Labor Law. Requirements under the Illinois Child Labor Law include:

• Parent or guardian must be present at the time the application is filed
• The minor child to whom the permit will be issued must be present to obtain the work permit.

The following information must be provided for verification:

• The child’s social security card.
• A statement of intention to employ signed by the prospective employer listing the nature of the occupation in which he intends to employ the minor. The exact hours of the day and number of hours per day and days per week must be listed.
• Verification of age:
  • Birth Certificate furnished by the State or County or a signed statement of the recorded date and place of birth issued by a registrar of vital records or passport; or
  • A certificate of baptism duly certified showing the date of birth and place of baptism of the child.
• Phone number and current address.
• The date of the child’s last physical, which must be within one year of the date the minor is applying.
• During the school year only: The pink principal form verifying that the minor is making satisfactory academic progress to work part-time. This can be issued on the school letterhead and signed by the principal.
• The work permit form (issued by the Illinois Department of Labor), available from the District Center.

Fees

Fees are assessed in the spring of the preceding school year and are due by July 1, 2024. The District offers parents the ability to pay with a credit card quickly and securely online through Family Access. Email us with questions.

Outdoor Education Fee

The Outdoor Education Fee is for Camp Duncan. 6th-grade students will be participating in the 2024-2025 school year.

Prorating and Waiving Fees

Parents can contact the Business Office to set up a payment plan for fees. If you are experiencing financial hardship and are incapable of paying any fee, please apply for a waiver. See the waiver application below; if you have questions, contact Rosa Castillo, District Office Receptionist at (847) 945-1844, x 7221, and rcastillo@dps109.org. You must submit a complete waiver application, which includes all required attachments. Fees are waived automatically if a family applies for and is found eligible for free milk (which makes them eligible for the National Free Lunch program).
