District 109 offers Family Access, a secure, web-based service that helps create a strong connection between home and school. With a login account to Family Access – which you should have received soon after registering your child – parents and guardians can view school-related information online (including progress reports) and update certain contact information. If you have more than one child in District 109 schools, you see information about all of your children under one login.
Teachers, PTOs, schools and the District use this contact information for important regular communication, so it’s important to keep your contact information current in Family Access.
For detailed information about this important system, view the Family Access User Guide (which also is posted on the District 109 home page).
Absences, Tardiness & Homework
If your child is ill, please call the school nurse by phone (847) 948-5151 ext. 1103, or email email@example.com before 8:40 a.m. on the first day of absence or if you do not expect your child to return after lunch.
Family vacations during school days are discouraged; however, if your child must miss school due to a vacation, parents are asked to notify the teacher and school office. Please know that teachers may not always be able to create individual lessons or homework before pre-arranged absences.
If your child is late to school, we want to make sure he or she is officially accounted for. Thus, students who come to school late should go to the school office and check in with a secretary before going to class.
If a parent wishes to pick up homework, please email the classroom teacher to request it. Homework will be placed in the foyer for pickup between 3:25 p.m. and 4:00 p.m..
Dress for Recess Success
Recess is held outdoors every day except for rain and severe cold (below 15 degrees with windchill). During snow season, children should wear winter coats, snow pants, boots, gloves, and hats each day. Please keep a spare pair of gym shoes in your child’s locker as gym shoes are required for physical education class. We suggest students keep a spare pair of jeans and socks in the locker so your child can change into dry clothes, when they play hard in the wet snow or rain puddles!
The Kipling PTO provides valuable programs and services to benefit our students, staff and families. We encourage all parents to get involved in this great organization. On the PTO website, you can find information regarding programs such as Special Lunch, Before-School Care, After School Enrichment, as well as Membership and the School Directory App information, the PTO calendar, Room Parent Program, and the school Yearbook.
District 109 works very closely with our transportation provider, Olson Transportation, to ensure that we have the best drivers to greet our students every morning, get them safely to and from school, and be a last, positive connection to school as they get off the bus at the end of the school day. These drivers all care deeply about the students who ride their buses, and about the District 109 community.
Click here to get to know a little bit about the people behind the wheel of your children’s buses!
Kindergarten parents must be in sight of the bus driver at drop off. Only riders who are assigned to a bus may ride that bus. Students may not ride other buses. A parent note must be provided for the bus driver to allow a regular rider to get off at a stop other than his/her regular stop.
Here is a link to the Transportation page of the website where bus routes and other important transportation information are posted.
Questions? Contact firstname.lastname@example.org.
The Kipling PTO provides a “birthday book” for each child along with a birthday sticker. Your child will be invited to come to the office to receive these gifts on his or her birthday. Birthday treats are not allowed in school. Summer birthdays will be celebrated at the end of the school year.
Rules of the Road
The safety of our Kipling Cougars is our highest priority. Please be mindful of your speed and the drop-off and pick-up procedures when driving in the parking lot and around the school!
Parents dropping their children off need to proceed the entire length of the parking lot along the field. Please do not cut in front of cars waiting patiently in the line by turning directly into the circle drive. Also, the drop off and pick up line is meant to move continuously. All doors are open on poor weather days. It is imperative that you not stop at the front door unless the cars in front of you are stopped. Parents should not park or get out of their vehicles while in the line even to unbuckle students or give hugs. Please park and walk up to the school if your child requires extra assistance. Thank you in advance for your cooperation with following these procedures!
