The Wilmot Word: 3-1-19

This Week at Wilmot
What a great week we had at Wilmot. By far the highlight of the week was the second and fourth grade “Night of the Arts.” Students in these grades showcased their talents for the entire school during the day followed by an evening concert for parents and guests! Second graders shared many fun songs about school as they performed: ”Education Rocks!” The fourth-grade concert, “Just for Fun” was full of funny songs that made us laugh and smile. Students even included a few jokes.

Students also shared their amazing art projects during the second and fourth-grade art shows. Second-grade students shared their national parks landscapes, done in chalk as well as their amazing paper weaving projects. After learning about Native American culture from fourth grader Akiwan Banks and her mom students viewed authentic paintings created by artist Le’Ana Asher (Akiwan’s mom), representing Native American culture. Students then used their background knowledge to create wonderfully designed garments depicting their interpretations of their personal culture, values and family traditions. These beautiful projects are displayed throughout the school. Thank you to Mrs. Dubin and Mrs. Ferdon for this fantastic “Night of the Arts!”

This week we also kicked off our participation in the American Heart Association’s Jump Rope for Heart Program. Students learned about heart health and the ways they can stay healthy.

Kindness Corner
#wilmotkindnessrocks
To celebrate Random Acts of Kindness Day (which was last week) all students worked with their buddy class to make Kindness posters to display throughout the school. Buddies drew pictures and included a kindness quote to promote a kind culture throughout Wilmot School. Students used their collaboration and communication skills to select a perfect quote to share. Here are some of the great quotes you will see displayed in our school: It’s cool to be kind, Choose kind, Throw kindness around like confetti, Be kind whenever possible; it is always possible, Kindness is contagious and Kind people are my kind of people. Here is a link to a video shared with all students about kindness. Thank you to our specials team for organizing this activity.
