The Wilmot Word: 11-1-19

What A Busy Week
What an exciting week we had at Wilmot. On Tuesday evening our band students put on their costumes and enjoyed their first band concert. Mr. Zmuda (dressed as a Jedi) conducted 4th and 5th graders in traditional songs as well as some special Halloween versions of these songs. FIfth graders even joined the Caruso 6th grade band as they played, Thriller. Everyone had a lot of fun!

A little rain and snow did not stop the fun at Wilmot. Our inside parade, sing along and fifth-grade Halloween parodies provided a great opportunity to showcase the creativity and talents of our students and staff. Thank you to Ms. Georges for leading us in an amazing sing along and for providing an opportunity to showcase our fifth graders in their parodies

Kindness Corner
#wilmotkindnessrocks - Team Give once again helped us helped support kindness this week with our annual staff pumpkin decorating contest. This year staff decorated pumpkins with a superhero theme. These were really cute and included a special Jiji pumpkin, as well as Wonder Woman, Iron Man, Superman, Captain America, Batman, The Hulk, Captain Underpants, and a Firefighter hero pumpkin. Students voted for their favorite pumpkin which was Captain Underpants, made by the 4th grade team! We raised nearl $1,100 which will be sent to the Anthony Rizzo Foundation for cancer research.

We also observed many acts of kindness during buddy activities this week. In kindergarten, older buddies were observed helping younger students with special Halloween projects!

Inclement Weather Guideline and Information (1st posting)
I can’t believe that the cold temperatures and snow have already begun. Here is information regarding our procedures for arrival and recess during inclement weather. Many factors are considered when we make a decision about inside or outside arrival and recess. These include the temperature and the windchill, as well as the conditions of our playgrounds and blacktop areas (e.g. snow, ice or water). We will go outside if it is 20 degrees or higher and at or above 15 degrees with the windchill (if the playgrounds and blacktops are safe). The decision to go outside is often made right before recess, and therefore, we request that all students are prepared to go outside each and every day. Please send students with the proper clothing (labeled with your child's name) including a coat, hat, gloves, boots, snow pants etc. I know that many students feel more comfortable in the building wearing shorts. I am asking that students wear or bring pants to use when they go outside.

Parent Conferences (4th posting posting)
Mark your calendars - We will hold our annual parent-teacher conferences on Monday, November 25 in the evening and all day on Tuesday, November 26. All elementary schools will have parents sign up for a conference through Family Access. If yo8 have not already done so, please sign up for a parent conference. To do this, login to Family Access and follow these simple steps:
At the Homepage, click on Teacher Conferences on the left-hand side of the page.
Choose your child’s name from the drop-down scheduler menu or you can view all of the children attending Wilmot at one time.
Next to each child’s name, choose “All Conferences.”
Select a time to view the teacher’s availability.
Select the time you want for your conference.
Click save
If you need to reschedule, click the View Scheduled Times tab and change the status to Unschedule. Then, reschedule for a time slot that meets your needs.

If you want to see what the conference scheduler looks like, check out this one minute video.

It is best practice to hold one parent conference per child, to ensure that both parents receive the same information regarding their child’s strengths and needs. Therefore, I ask that parents sign up for one joint conference per student. If this is a concern, please reach out to me directly. We look forward to seeing all of our parents during conferences.
