In the 2018-2019 school year, the Board of Education and Village of Deerfield approved an intergovernmental agreement to have a full-time school resource officer dedicated to serving the students, staff, and families of District 109.
District 109 would like to introduce all of our families and staff to Officer Lauren Maldonado. Officer Maldonado is our District's new School Resource Officer (SRO).
Officer Maldonado began her career as a 4th grade teacher before joining the Deerfield Police Department in 2017. She is also a certified juvenile officer. We feel extremely lucky to have someone with both the knowledge and training expected of a police officer and also the skills and demeanor for working with young children and adolescents She is looking forward to meeting all of our students and staff over the next several weeks.
As the SRO, Officer Maldonado will provide support to all District 109 schools and her work in District 109 will focus on:
Assisting with the delivery of instruction on substance abuse awareness, cyber-safety, and other topics;
Acting as the District’s DARE officer;
Providing wraparound supports for families in need;
Serving as a consistent point of contact between the District and the Deerfield Police;
Supporting professional learning for District 109 staff;
Engaging and educating our parent community on topics of importance;
And, serving as a positive role model for students.
We are very lucky to have the community partnerships with the Village and the Deerfield Police Department to make this a possibility. Please join us in welcoming Officer Maldonado to District 109. If you see her around your school, please say hello and welcome her to the District.
