DPS To Move To Hybrid Learning On January 19, 2021

EMAIL SENT FROM CO-INTERIM SUPERINTENDENTS ON JANUARY 12, 2021:

Good afternoon:

District 109 will be pivoting to a hybrid learning model starting on Tuesday, January 19. All students will have a new schedule that day*. Early Learners through 6th graders that opted for in-person hybrid will attend their in-person session that day. 7th & 8th graders will have their first in-person session on Thursday, January 21; however, they will begin following the hybrid schedule on the 19th.

We have compiled a District 109 Re-Entry Guide with extensive details and answers to your questions about:

  • The hybrid schedule
  • Daily student health certification
  • Arrival, dismissal & bus service
  • Health & safety protocols inside our buildings
  • School exclusion scenarios

There’s also a “What Happens If….” page that will walk you through some scenarios we commonly get asked about, like “What happens if an individual develops symptoms at school?” We will continue to add to this as situations arise.

ELEMENTARY SCHOOL: Here is the guide for Kipling, South Park, Walden & Wilmot families.

MIDDLE SCHOOL: Here is the guide for Caruso & Shepard families.

You will be getting a separate newsletter from your principal today with additional information pertaining to just your school, including daily certification links.

IMPORTANT: We will be beginning the daily health certification for all students tomorrow, January 13th. This will allow you to familiarize yourself with the certification form and develop a routine for completing this form each day. Beginning this process tomorrow also allows administrators and school nurses to connect with families of students who do not meet the criteria for entering the school building and see if they qualify for free on-site COVID testing outside the district office. If there are any potential COVID cases out there, we want to know about them now.

We know that there are questions about the decision to return & the rationale behind it. You can read more about the decision in the Board Briefs of last night’s meeting or watch the recording of the meeting, which is also available on the DPS 109 website.

We understand that this is a lot of information to digest, but we sincerely appreciate your passion and involvement.
