Updated Guidance Concerning 2021-2022 School Year

July 9, 2021

Today the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) updated their guidance for K-12 schools concerning the 2021-2022 school year. The Illinois Department of Public Health has announced that they will adopt this guidance as well. The Illinois State Board of Education has further endorsed the guidance, with the State Superintendent highlighting two major changes:

  1. Requiring masks only for individuals who are not fully vaccinated.
  2. Recommending at least 3 feet of physical distance between students within classrooms, but not if this would be a barrier to in-person learning.

The DPS 109 administration is reviewing the guidance to clarify the impact on our health and safety protocols for the start of the school year. We will keep you updated if any changes occur.
