Sign Up Begins 11/1 For Student Vaccine Clinic

Dear DPS 109 Parent/Guardian:

On Tuesday, October 26, the Vaccines and Related Biological Products Advisory Committee of the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) recommended Emergency Use Authorization of the Pfizer Covid-19 vaccine for children 5 to 11 years of age. While not yet fully approved, further action by the FDA and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention next week could pave the way for this age group to be eligible for the vaccine in a matter of days. We have worked with Passport Health to coordinate clinics for 5 to 11 year-olds in mid-November.

All clinics will be held in the Shepard Middle School cafeteria* on the dates/times listed below. A parent/guardian must accompany the student receiving the vaccination.

November 18 & December 9 from 3:30 - 7 PM

November 22 & December 13 from 3:30 - 7 PM

November 23 & December 14 from 8:30 AM - 12:30 PM*

*Please note that the second clinic on December 14 will be held during a school day within the Shepard library. You will be able to pick up your child from school that day to attend the clinic.

Clinic sign up links will be sent Monday, November 1, at 7 AM*Please note that the second appointment will automatically be scheduled on the follow up date at the same time as your first appointment. Additional slots may become available next week if there is high demand*

Participation in these clinics is entirely voluntary. Based on these dates, your child will not be fully vaccinated (two weeks out from their second dose) when winter break starts. We know that situation will work for some families, but not for others. There are expected to be numerous other avenues that you can pursue vaccination through, like your pediatrician or a local pharmacy.  If you wish to have your child vaccinated, choose the avenue that’s best for your family.

Should you have questions about the vaccine, you are encouraged to speak with your child’s pediatrician. If for whatever reason the vaccinations are not approved, your appointments will be canceled.

If you have non-medical questions or need assistance, please email and we will be happy to help. Again, look for sign-up links via email on Monday morning.
