Community Well-Being and Safety Night - January 9th, 2024 at 7 P.M.

We are looking forward to hosting our first Community Well-being and Safety Night on Tuesday, Jan 9th, 2024 at 7:00 P.M. in Shepard Middle School's gymnasium. Come learn from a combination of school district, law enforcement, and safety experts about the topics below:

  • Social media safety and how to talk to your child about it
  • Protecting your child's online identity
  • Security preparedness for district facilities

And more (check out this newsletter with program details). This program will begin with a 15-minute keynote by our Director of Safety and Security, Solveig Jurmu, and our Innovation Curriculum Specialist, Maria Galanis. In this keynote they will discuss social media safety, talking to your child about their social media activity, and how 109 students learn about digital citizenship in the classroom.

Following the keynote, tables will be spread throughout the gym in a career-fair style. At each table, there will be an expert or community group with different topics of conversation and key takeaways. During the last 45 minutes of the program, guests will be encouraged to roam around and ask questions. We will wrap up with a quick message from Mr. Simeck and the Board of Education and end with an opportunity for attendees to leave feedback on their experience, which will help us in developing future community engagement opportunities.
