Dr. Anthony McConnell: The Next District 109 Superintendent
Pending Board approval at tonight’s meeting, Dr. Anthony McConnell will become the new superintendent of Deerfield Public Schools District 109 effective July 1st.
The Board of Education conducted an exhaustive search with numerous rounds of screening and interviews that included teachers and parents. The Deerfield Public Schools District 109 is one of the premier districts in the state if not the nation; not surprisingly, there were many excellent applicants.
The Board’s selection of Anthony McConnell as the next superintendent is an affirmation that the Board - and our community - believe that the District is on a trajectory of excellence that must continue. It also is a clear reflection on Anthony’s outstanding leadership, vision, and expertise. In his five years in District 109, he has played a key role in guiding our positive path. For those of you who don’t know, Anthony began his career in District 109 in 2013 as assistant principal of Walden. He moved across town to Kipling, where he was principal from 2014-2017, guiding the school in becoming a Leader in Me™ and U.S. Blue Ribbon Award school. He currently is our Assistant Superintendent for Teaching, Learning & Innovation. As assistant superintendent, he’s been instrumental in launching our strategic plan, and clearly understands the road we’ve taken and the direction we are heading.
Look for a schedule of opportunities this spring to meet him.
